At nearly 100 years of age, the Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg
Resort is getting a facelift.
The iconic hotel overlooking the downtown St. Petersburgs
waterfront has announced plans for a "comprehensive transformation"
in the coming months, with the lobby, ballroom, restaurants,
spa, guest rooms and veranda all getting updates by 2022.
In a statement, hotel leaders said the hotel would keep its mix
of Mediterranean and Old Florida design, promising its original
cypress wood beams and ceramic tile floors would be "restored
within the new interiors". Most guest rooms would get walk-in
marble showers, and the pool would get a companion restaurant
and bar to the Pauls Landing area.

Other planned highlights: a restoration of the ballrooms
Dale Chihuly chandelier, a new walled garden and a patisserie
in the lobby. The verandas rocking chairs will remain.

The renovations, which are already underway, will cost "tens
of millions", according to a hotel spokeswoman. They represent
only the first phase of a planned multi-year renovation of both
the hotel and adjacent properties, including the Vinoy Golf Club.
Designs for those changes are in the early planning stages.
The hotel will remain open during renovations, although some
guest rooms and areas will be closed at certain times.

The Vinoy has been adored by both local Florida residents
and visitors for nearly a century, general manager Tabish
Siddiquie said in a statement. This transformation further
establishes the Vinoy as St. Petersburgs social hub and
a pillar of the flourishing community.
Opened in 1925, the Vinoy last sold in 2018 for $188.5 million
to a company led by Tampa Bay Buccaneers owner Bryan Glazer.
It is operated by Marriott International.
